you may hear light rainfall . amy: once we get through sunrise, we need a little bit of heat. we have an area of low pressure that is not quite here yet. as you look at the day planner, the bulk of the showers and storms happen through the afternoon. the rain will push off of the east coast. it is a whole a warmer when you get out the door, mainly because of the cloud cover. much of the area, seeing showers. we have this area of low pressure by the panhandle.

it will head northeast. that will pull the cold front through p a. that will fire up the possibility of stronger storms. timing of the storm, moving into the metro area , off the brevard county coast through early afternoon. jason: we are watching about the week. stronger whether our way. jazmin: it is time to get ready. operations center. alex: officials have staff on

we are not expecting a major outbreak of tornadoes. they are making sure and they want to be prepared and they want to make sure you are prepared. the tornadoes are slim. this is a preview of the storm systems. we saw florida' s worst tornado outbreak. we will see this potential for storms. we need to get ready for them in advance. they will follow this pattern of coming through in the early morning while it is till dark out side. you need to be ready to move to

westbound on the right , no delay getting out of lake mary getting into lee. turnpike to colonial, on the right side, that is eastbound getting into downtown orlando. going to the breaking news center where brett connolly is. brett: we are following some breaking news of a fatal hit and run in new smyrna beach. police say a bicyclist was riding on the shoulder of state road 44, about a mile east of i-95 when he was hit by a dark-colored chevy truck. the driver of the pickup left the scene but was found a short time later, about six miles away on airport road. the pickup had damage consistent with the fatal crash. for now the driver has been charged with dui but additional charges could be added. more details are expected to be released later this morning including the names of the victim and the driver. jason, jazmin. jason: breaking news this morning, a missing 11-year-old

a statewide missing child alert . jazmin: take a look at dejahn bundick, fdle says he hasn' t been seen since wednesday. dejahn was last seen at the colonial grand at townpark apartments. that is off international parkway. he was wearing a long-sleeve, gray-and-black shirt, green sweatpants and black shoes. he is four feet tall. if you see dejahn, call 911. happening today, one of the suspects arrested in a sex trafficking bust last year will learn his fate. jason: jose alvarez was arrested last january during a raid in south orange county. investigators say he and two other people were holding a woman captive inside her home. authorities say the suspects took advantage of the victim' s cocaine addiction, threatened her, and forced her to sell her body for sex. turning to commitment 2016, the gloves came off.

>> we should be for free trade. >> the next debate is sunday and south carolina. tracy potts, nbc news, washington. jason: the today show will have coverage of the debate, including a one-on-one interview with marco rubio. you can catch it right here on wesh 2 starting at 7:00. jazmin: there is new information this morning on the deadly terror attack in indonesia. three people have been arrested in connection with the siege in jakarta that killed seven people. isis has claimed responsibility for the attack. and this morning, police say they have retrieved an isis flag from the home of one of the attackers. officials say a police station and a busy mall were targeted. >> i ran out and when i reached the car over there i heard a second explosion. and i ran further, i heard the

third explosion. jazmin: the u.s. embassy is warning americans that more incidents like this are possible. jason: we have new information this morning on a gruesome triple murder in polk county. police say they' ve arrested two people in the case. andrew joseph and jonathan alcegaire were both caught in miami. deputies say the suspects killed three people last week inside a lakeland home. they then shot another person in the face. investigators believe the crime was drug related, but that doesn' t justify the attack. >> we do not care whether you are a drug dealer or not. we are not going to stand for anybody murdering you. quite frankly, they will murder again. jason: deputies say they' re still looking for at least two other suspects. jazmin: this morning, deputies are searching for answers after a shooting injured a delivery driver in orange county. the gunfire erupted at the esplinade apartments near rio grande and americana boulevard yesterday afternoon. deputies say one of those bullets hit the delivery driver

who was down the road at the andover place apartments. detectives took one person into custody but say he is not cooperating. jason: covering orange county this morning, the school district could soon ask students and parents about what they think of start times for local high schools. s meeting the board recommended conducting surveys about whether the first bell of the day rings way too early. right now, all high schools ring the bell before 7:30 a.m. they are trying to figure out if there' s enough support, and enough money, to change that. >> it is a national conversation. many school districts have been grappling with a similar discussion. jason: a new start time could end up costing the district. one plan requires about $48 million to pull off. you are going to step outside and notice the difference. let'

amy: we have thunderstorms . we have rain, just over the next 12 hours we need to monitor closely. temperatures are in the lower 60' s. you may want a jacket or umbrella for the rain. for i-4 over to the coast, we have these showers. most of the rain is light. there have been a few hours where you see the yellow.

once we get into the late morning, we start to heat up. we will get stronger storms developing. i am concerned about gusty wind. this line of storms is moving quickly. if we get any kind of stronger wind, those two things combined bring those severe level wind. we could have weather warnings late morning into early afternoon. a lot of the rain is gone and we will clear things out this evening. temperatures will be warmer today. we will climb to the 70' s. do not forget about our weather app. you can download it any time there is a warning issued for your area.

sweezey in a few moments. jazmin: a driver has been arrested for a deadly hit and run in new smyrna beach. a truck was found a short time later. the driver is charged with dui. jason: a missing trial -- missing child alert has been issued. dejahn bundick was last seen at the apartments on monday. if you see him, call 911. this morning, a travel alert for pregnant women. jazmin: the cdc is sending out a warning about a mosquito borne disease called the zika virus. they' re urging women not to travel to places where it' s spreading, including brazil and the caribbean. the virus attacks unborn babies and officials say they' ve already had more than 3,000 cases of babies born in brazil with abnormally small heads and brains. >> often leading to death on the part of the baby soon after birth or serious difficulties of

brain function and cognitive function. jazmin: medical experts are working on creating a vaccine for the virus. "the today show" will have a full report coming up at 7:00. jason: new on sunrise, planned parenthood is now suing anti-abortion activists. the lawsuit is aimed at the group called center for medical progress, who produced undercover videos targeting planned parenthood' s handling of fetal tissue at some clinics. planned parenthood is accusing the group of fraud and illegal conspiracy to block abortion rights. jazmin: happening today, the orlando pride will grow a little bigger. jason: the new pro-women' s team college draft. brett connolly is here with a preview. brett: they have the face of the franchise here. today, the pride will look to fill roster spots around her.

draft starts at 10:00 in baltimore. their first pick will be 10th overall. they have three total picks in the draft. the women' s team plays in the new stadium being built in downtown orlando next year, which will also be home for the lions. if you do not hear your name called in the draft today, there is still a chance to earn a roster spot. jason: that is exciting. jazmin: orlando is becoming a real sports. -- a real sports town. amy: if you are going to be out and about, there is some things we need to let you know about. strong thunderstorms heading our

we have the isolated threat of a tornado. if you are sending your kids to school, there is light rain and it is a little warmer. there is the rain. it is fairly light. we have another round of rain at rolling in the coast. this is a pre-court -- precursor to a bigger line of storms heading this way. at this point, it is light rain. a few moderate showers in that it in there. this is what we are waiting for now. an area of low pressure heading to the north and east. it will drag this cold front, this line of storms is going to head in here. it is moving quickly.

about 8:00 or 9:00 this morning is when we will see these storms had our way. it will move through from west to east between 9:00 and 2:00. the biggest threat will be the straight line winds. we will have severe thunderstorm warnings issued. there is a slight chance we could get some twisting with the strong wind. we will keep you posted. if there is a warning for your area, you can make sure you are prepared for that and you have a plan. i am trying to give you a lot of warning here. once the line arrives, you can

see the biggest storms are off the coast. we have cloud cover and a couple of spotty showers. once we get to the evening, it moves through quickly. we will clear things out and try it out. saturday is looking pretty good. it is a low threat for tornadoes today. i am concerned about downpours and gusty wind. it does not matter if the wind is twisting or going straight. pull furniture is inside. pool furniture is inside. we are going to be warm with the south-southwest wind. into the weekend, we are dry into tomorrow. we will likely see showers and

person, you are drooling over that video. jazmin: new video this morning of backstreet boy nick carter bonding out of jail. we told you yesterday how he was arrested in key west after a bar fight. carter is accused of head-butting an employee and choking the bouncer. he told the cameras he was trying to enjoy his vacation and that the truth will come out. jason: today seattle' s duck boat tours will be back in operation, four months after a deadly accident. last september, a crash between a duck boat and a bus killed five people and hurt dozens more, including two people from central florida. since then, seattle had shut them down. when tours resume this morning, they will have increased security measures. ahead, a republican showdown in south carolina. jazmin: the highs and lows of the first gop debate. re announcer: local, live, latebreaking. this is wesh 2 news sunrise in high definition. jason: right now, keep an umbrella handy as we track rain across central florida. jazmin: we are live with what emergency officials want you to know to stay safe. jason: we are here with amy sweezey. amy: right now, a lot of rain. as you leave the house, you may not need a jacket. what is going to happen is we are going to get not only rain, but thunderstorms. strong wind gusts inside of these storms. once we get through sunrise and get closer to 8:00 or 9:00 in the morning, we will see a line of storms approaching.

that will have strong wind. the line is moving at 40 to 45 miles per hour. through early afternoon, we will keep the storms pushing over towards the east coast. we will dry things out and end up with a nice friday night. temperatures are in the 60' s. a far cry from the 30' s and 40' s. there is the rain to the south. this is what i am most concerned about with the stronger wind gust inside this line. it will roll through about 8:00 or 9:00 this morning. there is the light rain along i-75. if you are leaving your house this morning, it is just rain on the road. temperatures will be in the

>> it needs to be prepared in advance. we're calling on to get ready for the severe weather not just today but in the next few months. they say bring in anything from outside that isn't secured like lawn chairs or plants and know where you would take cover in case of a warning. we're going to see more of these types of storms with high winds and risks of tornadoes over the next few months because of el nino. this year's el nino is predicted to be

nearly as strong if not stronger as the one in 1998 which was the largest in recorded history. that is when we saw florida's worst tornado outbreak. there is potentially severe weather coming our way, something amy has been telling you through the morning and that could potentially have an impact on us here in central florida. another thing you can do to make sure you're safe is to keep a close eye on social media. the wesh 2 weather app, you can always turn to our app for updates or have a weather radio as well. those are going to be the quickest ways you're going to be able to find out what emergency officials are saying or doing. we will be tracking any storms and any risks of tornadoes. right now it's raining, trickling right now. but how are our roads looking? >> for the most part

quiet, i have a traffic alert weather field is blocked off for a deadly car crash involving a motorcycle. you will be detoured around. as you look at the seminole county map, 436 i-4 quiet so far. to colonial drive down to down orlando normal. westbound on the right not so bad. downtown orlando john young to colonial, a short drive. >> we're following breaking news out of the senate is not in order this morning for this -- following news off sanford for this missing child. we'll show you where the location he was last scene. he was last seen wednesday on oak springs place in the colonial granite apartments

h.e. thomas jr. parkway. the boy was wearing a long-sleeved gray and black shirt, green sweat pants and black shoes. he is four feet tall. if you see that boy you're urged to call 911. jason: we've got more breaking news. we're waiting to learn the name of a driver suspected in a deadly hit-and-run on smirna beach. the driver was arrested and is now charged with d.u.i. the victim's name has not been released. jazmin: three people were injured in a crash that involved a sherrifs deputy. the deputy was responding to a burglary call at the time. the crews rear ended one car pushing it into another. the deputy and two other people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

jason: today we can find out if a high profile murder delayed. attorneys for a suspect was judge to put off the trial. toledo is accused of killing his wife and children in 2013. prosecutors want to seek the death penalty but the supreme court recent ruling is changing the way florida sentences for convicted murderers. toledo's attorneys want the death penalty off the table and move forward with the trial next week. jazmin: lawyers for david damus will be in court to ask for a new trial. they say one of the jurors in the previous trial did not disclose she was dating damus's cousin. his accomplice has confessed to the crime. >> new video of a chicago plit shooting that -- police

shooting. surveillance footage shows 17-year-old cedric chatman being shot and killed as he ran from an officer in 2013. you do not see the actual moment he was shot. police say the teen did not have any weapons but say he was suspected in a carjacking. a federal judge ordered the video released yesterday. no officers have been charged. jason: commitment 2016, this morning the republican candidates for president get back on the campaign trail after another heated debate. they faced off last night network. nikole killion breaks down the showdown. >> donald trump and ted candidates. conservatives come out of manhattan. i'm just saying. >> that was a very insulting statement that ted made. >> on the issue of citizenship, donald, i'm

at one point all could agree on doing away with president obama's policies and taking out hillary clinton this fall. >> new details this morning on what led to the capture of ten american sailors in iran. u.s. officials now say a navigation error, not a mechanical problem, caused them to accidentally sail into iranian waters tuesday. defense secretary ash carter says it's unclear if the crew made the mistake or if navigational equipment is to blame. the sailors were released wednesday morning and are back with their fleet. >> in a few hours two nasa astronauts will venture outside the international space station. the two will perform a spacewalk to fix a failed regulator that provides power to part of the i.s.s. this is video from the pair's spacewalk in december. the astronauts will install new cables to allow future commercial spacecraft to dock with the station. the spacewalk begins at 7:55 this morning. jason: --

the road umbrella with you. get heavier this morning. >> we've got a line of way. won't morning. we are monitoring it. this morning early on morning commute through about 8:00 it's mainly going to be rain. i don't expect a lot of thunderstorms. there's clouds, a lot warmer temperatures. most of us are in the 60's. once we get to 9:00, 10:00 through early afternoon we'll have a line of strong storms that will have strong wind gusts and a low chance we could have a tornado spin off as well. that will continue through the early part of the afternoon and then once we get into the evening commute most of the rain will be gone and quickly off the east coast. the line will move through quickly but that also means more opportunity for winds to be really fast. low to mid 60's where we are now. it is a much warmer start thanks to the clouds and the rain. at this point it is just light showers but here's the line. see that red line, that is the line of storms setting

jackpot splitting $1.6 billion still remain a mystery. jazmin, back to you. >> nothing worse than thinking you won and it didn't happen. >> a man caught on camera stealing thousands of dollars worth of liquor from a downtown orlando club. workers are calling the theft a slap in the face. police say the person is seen on the surveillance video outside the club last night loading $30,000 worth of liquor and beer into a trash can. he was arrested yesterday. the club's general manager says he hired the man to do work around the club to help him get off the streets. >> we were just trying to help him out, give him cash, food, somewhere to stay. kind of a big hit for us. >> the man was allegedly selling the bottles for ten dollars a piece on the street. >> an amtrak train that left from sanford was involved in a deadly crash in jacksonville. troopers say that train hit an s.u.v. that was stopped on the tracks yesterday. the driver of the car died at the hospital. none of the 157 people on

the train were hurt. that amtrak train was heading to northern v.a. >> covering vo lieu shah county, look at a trap installed yesterday on the southern end of florida residents say wild hogs have been tearing up lawns since christmas causing thousands of dollars worth of some of the residents started legally shooting the hogs for safety reasons the city decided to put up the traps instead. >> 5:46. it's friday but you are going to have a little bit of a slower start because of that rain that's falling. it's not terrible just yet. >> most everybody will be able to get to work okay this morning and to school everything will be good. about 9:00 is when we have this strong line of storms out in the gulf of mexico that's going to be heading our way. it is okay -- cool is relatively speaking. it is way warmer this

morning than every other day this week. we are in the 50's and 60's, well above our averages which are mid to upper 40's. as we head through the day today we are going to be much warmer with clouds and of course the rain. look at the slight -- slight and radar pictures and you'll see light showers, rain rolling into marion county and sumpter. at this point this is the precursor of the bigger action that will happen a few hours from now. scattered showers, it will make the pavement wet. you'll likely need wipers on and off through the morning commute. the bigger stuff is back to the north and west. there is an area of low pressure that is not actually going to come in here but instead head off to the northeast. but as that low does head north of us, there's a cold front that's kind of attached to it and that is what is going to bring this line -- see that red color right there? that is going to roll into central florida in the next several hours. at this point it's moving very quickly,

40, 45 miles per hour. that means it's almost four hours away from central florida. once we get to about 9 a.m. or so, we will be watching this closely for marion and sumpter counties first. the timing today during the day, late morning or early afternoon rolls from the west over towards the east coast. my biggest concern is going to be these wind gusts. just the line of storms itself moving so quickly, 40, 45 miles per hour, you're going to get the winds going that fast any way. factor in the winds coming from the storm and you end up with wind gusts that are even higher. 58, 60-mile-an-hour winds, severe thunderstorm warnings issued if the wind gets to that strength. we have the isolated threat, a low chance we could have a brief tornado spinning off as well. sign up for alerts at wesh.com to go to your smart phone in case there are warnings for where you are. future cast, mainly rain. there's 9:00,

thars when the thunderstorms build. east of orlando. by 2:00 the storms are off the coast of brevard county. then we have lingering showers, a couple of clouds in the afternoon and evening. once we get to friday night things look great. we'll dry things out and have a really nice saturday. my biggest concerns are the strong wind gusts. then of course there will be downpours. then there is that low threat of a tornado as well. if there are any warnings we'll be watching it for you. temperatures meanwhile will be in the 70's today. going to be very breezy. once we get to tomorrow, we dry things out and have a really nice day. kid apalooza going on at wickham park in melbourne. sunday another storm system coming through but we will be cooling down behind those storms. highs only in the 60's next week. >> two crashes out there. a crash on weathers field
